I’m not really the type of person who cries when a celebrity dies, but when I saw the news of Virgil passing I started crying in my Uber. Virgil showed so many of us that more is possible, that you don’t have to choose just one lane, and that you can be kind and ambitious. He has shown us what it means to be polymathic, interdisciplinary, and committed to your vision. We never met, but your influence will continue on my live

The piece is done in an off-white, which references Virgil’s personal brand. I only used whites, but when the painting adhered to the ground it pulled off so much color which he brought to so many spaces including @louisvuitton. I ended up using blocks as the visual for his signature quotes because they had an architectural quality and also an unfinished, prototyping message, all embodied by Virgil’s work. Around the outside is Virgil’s “Personal Design Language” from his @harvard presentation.
